Palma is getting ready for one of the most anticipated events of the year: the official switch-on of the Christmas lights. This year, the city will illuminate the start of the festive season on Saturday, November 22 at 6:30 PM — the weekend before Black Friday — and tens of thousands of people are expected to gather in the historic center to witness the moment the city begins to sparkle.
A Spectacular Opening to the Festive Season
Palma will officially inaugurate the holiday season with its long-awaited Christmas Lights Ceremony. This year’s celebration will feature a spectacular audiovisual show that transforms the city into a glowing stage of light, sound and projection.
The immersive performance — lasting between 30 and 60 minutes — will lead up to the traditional countdown and the magical moment when Palma’s Christmas lights illuminate the streets for the first time.
More Lights Than Ever
With more streets than ever ready to shine, this year’s production will include a complete technical setup: lighting, sound, staging and creative installations that guarantee an unforgettable evening for both residents and visitors.
Last year, around 20,000 people filled Palma’s old town to witness the switch-on. Once the lights came on, the entire city lit up in festive splendour — from the Plaça de Cort and Plaça Mayor to the small alleyways and shopping streets.
Christmas Market Opens
Following the lighting ceremony, the central Christmas market in Palma will also open its doors, offering food stalls, crafts, decorations and seasonal treats.
